Relay Course Challenge for U10, U12 and U14

The Relay Course Challenge is a way for U10, U12 and U14 cohorts to “compete” against each other, have fun, and develop Ringette skills in a way that fits with current public health rules for sport in Nova Scotia.

Starting on January 31 cohorts can complete the Relay Course Challenge as many times as they choose, right up until the date that public health allows full sport teams to resume practices (TBD but anticipated either February 7 or February 14).

The longer Nova Scotia is under current restrictions requiring cohorts of ten, the longer your cohort will have the opportunity to improve its results and try to win the Challenge!

The Relay Course Challenge is open to all U10, U12 and U14 cohorts from ringette clubs that are part of CRRL, and there is no registration process required other than completing the Challenge and submitting results. This is a TEAM (cohort) challenge so results will be based on the overall time for the cohort, divided by the number of athletes that participate. No individual scores – it’s all about the TEAM!

When public health restrictions change and the Relay Course Challenge has closed, one winning cohort in each division (U10, U12, U14) will be announced. Winning cohorts in each division will receive a prize pack of goodies from event sponsor Rise Ringette Camp… and the bragging rights!

Message from RNS Director of Officials

A Message from Cathy Hebert, Director of Officials, RNS:

Hi Parents -

I hope your players have had a great start to their ringette season and are enjoying being back on the ice.

As many of you may be aware, we are desperate for ringette officials in Nova Scotia. Every weekend, we scramble to put officials. This season has seen several games moved to line them up with qualified officials, and it won't be long before we begin seeing games cancelled due to lack of available officials. While this generally affects the older players at a higher frequency, this season we anticipate that U10 and U12 teams will also see cancellations of games.

We generally have lots of teens interested in refereeing, which is great. However, recruiting new adult officials is going to be key for more quickly building up our pool of qualified officials for higher level games, as adults are generally faster at developing the skills required to move past U10/U12 games.

If this is something you would be interested in, or if you know someone who might be interested, RNS will be running a Level 1 Officials Clinic on November 11. Decent skating skills and a willingness to learn are all that is needed. We are committed to offering a space in this clinic to any interested adults. Please contact Cathy Hebert, Director of Officials for RNS, officials@ringette.ns.ca for more information on how to register.

2021-22 Season Kick Off

We’re excited to have another season of ringette league play underway in Nova Scotia’s Central Region… with lots of action in Berwick too! The CRRL Board and League Operations Committee are working hard to deliver many more weeks of competition for the 43 teams that are part of the Central Region Ringette League.

We now have schedulers and division conveners identified, team rosters being populated on the website, and very soon we’ll have game scores and standings available online too (U12 and above). This progress towards reinstating a league in Nova Scotia’s Central Region would not be possible without the help and dedication of many volunteers. We thank all of you that are involved.

As we progress in this first season we ask for and appreciate everyone’s support. CRRL is a new organization and there will be many learnings in the weeks and months ahead. Division conveners are a resource for teams that want to provide feedback or that have questions about league rules and operations. Please reach out to them as required.

We also want to be forthcoming with associations and teams about challenges the league is facing. We have a couple very dedicated and capable volunteers involved in the effort to put together the CRRL game schedule, however there are severe limitations in the availability of active referees in HRM currently, and this is largely driving the game schedule. We have been working with Ringette Nova Scotia and they have a plan in place to address this as quickly as possible. In the interim, we are asking for patience and understanding as we do our best to schedule games and assign referees from the small pool that is available today.

Challenges aside, we are thrilled to be offering more structured competition for ringette athletes in the Central Region. To all the teams hitting the ice in the next few days we hope you have a fun and safe weekend.

Division Conveners Needed for U16 and U19

CRRL is looking for Division Conveners for U16 and U19.  Time commitment is estimated to be less than an hour per week and these roles are important to keep league play organized and for the tracking of information and standings.

Duties of Division Conveners include:

  • Provide oversight for one age division (all tiers within that division) for CRRL
  • Receive and review Game Reports and update standings on the CRRL website
  • Track all games that are not completed in Regulation time and provide updates to the League Committee
  • Track use of Affiliate Players and all Misconduct/Match/Major penalties and Unsportsmanlike penalties within the division and provide updates to the League Committee
  • Make decisions related to cancellation of games due to inclement weather when the respective coaches are unable to reach consensus
  • Monitor game suspensions within the division to ensure they are served
  • Serve on the Discipline Panel for any complaints that require review under the Discipline Complaints Policy and that pertain to the relevant age division.

Welcome to the new Central Region Ringette League!

A new organization called the Central Region Ringette League (CRRL) was created in September 2021 following a collaborative planning effort over the past 12+ months between Harbour City Lakers, Halifax Hurricanes, Berwick & District, and Nova Central ringette associations.

This season CRRL will oversee governance and administration of inter-association competition in the Central Region (U10 to U19) from mid-October until the end of February, with league play concluding just prior to Ringette Nova Scotia Provincial tournaments.

This effort between local associations marks an exciting and positive step forward for Ringette in the Central Region, and renewed dedication to governance and structure of a league that will benefit all athletes, coaches and officials.

We are looking forward to a great season ahead!
